A Note from Dwight Armstrong, National FFA COO

Dear Friends of FFA,

We urgently need your assistance. FFA has the opportunity to establish a commemorative coin with the U.S. Mint to celebrate FFA’s 85th anniversary.

A commemorative coin would not only be an honor for FFA, it would provide an economic boost that would help us bring more outstanding agricultural education programs and leadership opportunities to our students.

In August of 2009, two bills (S. 1553 and HR. 3464) were introduced to the U.S. Congress. Each bill requires two-thirds of the members of Congress to co-sponsor it.

We need 67 senators 290 representatives to sign on to sponsor the bill.

As of today, 40 senators and 98 representatives have signed.

So, please, contact your state’s senators and representatives today, and ask them to sign Senate Bill 1553 and House Resolution 3464 in support of the FFA Commemorative Coin.

The current Congressional session is almost over. If Congress adjourns in the next two weeks as planned, and we don’t have enough co-sponsors for the bill, we will have to begin the entire process over again when Congress reconvenes in January.

So it is urgent that you contact your legislators as soon as possible. In less than five minutes, you can send an e-mail to your state's senators and representatives. The NAAE Legislative Alert website makes it easy. Then ask your fellow FFA members, ag teachers, parents, school principals and friends to do the same.

This is a great opportunity to build awareness of the importance of agricultural education and FFA in our nation’s schools.

In my first year as National FFA COO, I’ve seen FFA members, advisors and sponsors and supporters across the country work together to accomplish amazing things. So, I know that even though we only have a short amount of time, FFA can make this happen!

Thank you,

Dwight
